Hi You Guys~

My name is Polo Tate, and I am an actor, an artist, and the author of Deep Dark Blue. When I was eleven years old, I had a dream: I wanted to be in the Air Force. I stamped this dream into an aluminum alloy pair of dog tags, and I shoved them in my sock, and I proceeded to wear my dream every moment of every day—through self-imposed double-day practices, through four years of varsity volleyball, basketball and soccer games, through National Honor Society, through every class and test to keep my 4.0 GPA, through SATs, ACTs, military vetting, even through the senatorial nominations I earned. And I wore this dream when I accepted my appointment and signed my NCAA letter of intent to attend and play volleyball for the United States Air Force Academy… 

Until that dream was warped, whipped, and ripped out from under me, and in my terror, I was faced with one question—

Do I stay…or do I live?

Those of you familiar with my story know that I left the United States Air Force Academy a bruised and broken shell of a human being. It took all of me to survive my experience there—and it took the rest of what I could muster to make it through multiple knee surgeries, shoulder surgeries, and near death experiences, to play volleyball for, and to finally graduate from the University of Notre Dame. Since narrowly surviving the Air Force Academy, I have devoted my body, my mind, my spirit, to truly and authentically thriving; to wholly embodying the principle that ‘no one can take your joy.’ The brilliant souls that I have been fortunate enough to meet along the way, the incredible things that I have been able to learn, and the powerful events that I have been honored to experience, have allowed me to learn how to live heart first, to love on a cellular level, and to contribute creatively in immeasurable and invaluable ways.
